What I’ve read:
The Need to Read by Paul Graham
This atomic essay is actually about the importance of writing.
“…writing is not just a way to convey ideas, but also a way to have them.”
And you can’t write well without reading well.
Read this short piece to be reminded of the importance of reading and hopefully even inspired to try writing.
What I’ve been listening to:
Dr. Paul Conti on the Huberman Lab podcast - Part 2: How to Improve Your Mental Health
Part 2 of a 4-part series on mental health that I recommended recently.
Commenting on Part 1 of this series, I said,
Judging by the first episode, with this series, Huberman is aiming to give a university course level of value on the topic of mental health for free.
Part 2 only reinforced this opinion. That’s why I’ll repeat: This is not one of those podcasts you play as background noise while doing your chores. This is something you listen to with full attention and take notes on.
What I’ve been thinking about:
Life is, in a way, more difficult when you accept that human relationships are not black and white.
When you don’t take the easy way of seeing every person as either a good or bad character in the story of your life.
When you learn that people can mean well but do harm.
When you learn that someone can love you but not in the way you want or are used to being loved.
When you see that every human relationship is painted with more shades than you knew existed.
Life becomes more difficult because you have to put more thought and effort into your relationships.
More difficult, but infinitely richer.
Thank you for reading.
Stay strong, love life, and never feel sorry for yourself.
