What I’ve been (re)reading:
Zen in the Art of Archery by Eugen Herrigel
This time, more than a recommendation on what to read, it’s a recommendation on one of the ways how to read.
I am returning to this book after immersing myself in the work of Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and the concept of flow.
So, this time, rather than reading Zen in the Art of Archery from cover to cover and waiting to see what the author wants to tell me, I am doing a quick reread of the book, and even skipping parts of it, with a clear intention: finding moments where the author’s description of practicing the art of archery aligns with the concept of flow.
I suggest this as a good training for your reading and thinking: connect ideas from different books, then search for the main parallels. But also keep your eye on the differences, as they might be equally interesting.
What I’ve been listening to:
Nomak
Nomak is a Japanese DJ and a music producer. If you like Nujabes, you will enjoy Nomak as well.
Remember that your diet is not just what you eat. It’s what you consume through all of your senses, and your mind as well.
This type of sound diet brings me piece and joy. I hope it does the same for you.
What I’ve been thinking about:
The goal of fully engaging in a meaningful and worthwhile task is not happiness.
But you will get happiness out of it as a bonus.
Thank you for reading.
Stay strong, love life, and never feel sorry for yourself.
