What I’ve been reading:
The True Believer: Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements by Eric Hoffer
This book is one of the most special gifts I have received in my life.
About a week ago, I was working out by the beach when a handsome man with a beautiful baby boy in his arms approached me.
Jay has been following my Instagram page and reading Existential Espresso for a while, and he recognized me. It’s the first time I've had an encounter of this sort. To say that I was honored would be a massive understatement.
In a matter of a couple of minutes, it was clear that we could spend hours talking. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the chance because Jay was continuing his trip and leaving the place soon after.
However, we did meet up to exchange books before he left. I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate this chance encounter. Besides being one of the best books on the nature of mass movements, this physical copy of The True Believer is a gift I will cherish for the rest of my life.
If you are reading this, Jay, thank you. I’m sure our paths will cross again.
What I’ve listened to:
Erich Fromm on Mental Health
This is a recording of a 1960 interview with Erich Fromm. A message of warning to society as a whole, but I find it can also be a message of encouragement to the individual who feels out of place in the modern world.
If this 16-minute video intrigues you, I suggest reading Fromm’s book “Sane Society,” which was one of the very first reading recommendations on Existential Espresso almost two years ago.
“We offer such amount of avenues of escape that most people forget themselves. In fact, I would say they forget that they are human in a deeper sense.”
What I’ve been thinking about:
I drew as much, if not more, wisdom and inspiration from conversations with “ordinary” people as I did from all the best podcasts and greatest books I’ve read.
For a long time, an idea has been brewing in my mind. Andt now it’s solidified.
I want to have conversations with amazing “ordinary” people for my own selfish pleasure and enjoyment. But I also want to give my platform to the people who help me build it.
You’re probably guessing where I’m going with this. And as crazy as it seems, it’s true.
I’m starting a podcast with you. I can’t remember the last time I was this scared and excited about a project, but I guess that’s a sign I’m moving in the right direction.
However, I’m not going to be able to pull this one off alone.

Thank you for reading.
Stay strong, love life, and never feel sorry for yourself.
