What I’ve been reading:
Rethinking Stress: The Role of Mindsets in Determining the Stress Response by Alia Crum, Peter Salovey, and Shawn Achor
A scientific paper; not my usual type of reading material. I decided to read this one because I was revisiting some of the work of Alia Crum on mindsets.
If you are in a mood for reading something “a bit” more dry but unquestionably valuable and interesting once you’ve completed it, I recommend giving it a try.
If you are just interested in how mindsets determine our stress response, or mindsets in general, I suggest you listen to the Andrew Huberman podcast with Alia Crum.
What I’ve listened to:
Sadia Khan on the Modern Wisdom podcast
Sadia Khan, better known as “Sadia Psychology,” has been taking the social media world by storm lately with her insights on relationships and male-female dynamics. What I respect about her is that she is clearly not trying to cater to any specific audience. Both men and women will find encouragement as well as uncomfortable truth in what she has to say.
What I’ve been thinking about:
If you don’t choose a path for yourself, you will be given one. You will be given one by your society, your family, or someone else.
This idea, with slight variations, has been told over and over again. Because it’s true.
But I would like to add something.
Maybe the path you are given by someone else is the right path for you. But as long as you don’t choose your path yourself, you will spend your life wondering, “What if”.
So it’s not that your ability to choose the right path is better than theirs. It’s that you can only be at peace if you’re walking down the path that you’ve chosen.
Thank you for reading.
Stay strong, love life, and never feel sorry for yourself.
