What I’ve been reading:
The Art of Taking Action by Gregg Krech
I became introduced to Gregg Krech and his works with the help of one of my favorite books I’ve read this year: Constructive Living by David K. Reynolds. Gregg Krech, just like Reynolds, bases his alternative approach to mental health and psychology on Japanese Morita and Naikan therapies. (With the addition of the concept of Kaizen, which I didn’t notice being mentioned by Reynolds, although I haven’t read all of his works.)
One of the most potent ideas that I picked up from this book so far is the need to shift from a feeling-centered approach to making decisions to a purpose-centered approach.
The question isn’t “What do I feel like doing?” but, rather, “what needs to be done?” All the time management systems in the world won’t really help us very much until we’ve developed the capacity to make decisions based on purpose rather than feelings.
What I’ve listened to:
Rich Roll on the Modern Wisdom podcast
Two extremely ambitious, driven, and successful individuals, Rich Roll and Chris Williamson, talk about the dangers of letting your ambition, drive, and maybe even obsession run uncontrolled.
If you consider yourself an ambitious person and, at times, cannot relate to people around you who don’t seem to have a problem taking a break, you must listen to this conversation.
Watch or listen here or on any other podcast streaming platform.
What I’ve been thinking about:
“I don’t want to deal with that.”
Whether it’s frustration, anger, shame, pain, betrayal, or anything similar that comes to your mind…
You will deal with it whether you like it or not.
you can, sooner or later, deal with it unconsciously and punish yourself for avoiding it.
Or you can voluntarily deal with it on your own terms and in a healthy way. You can approach with an attitude of courage, responsibility, but also self-love and acceptance.
Thank you for reading.
Stay strong, love life, and never feel sorry for yourself.
