Ever since I started writing online over 4 years ago, I’ve been using the phrase “to fully engage in life.” It's been a recurring theme, not only in my writing but in the conversations I have with myself and others.
It wouldn't even be a mistake to say that all my different ways of trying to make a positive impact point in the same direction: getting people to fully engage in life.
But I never explained to my audience what I mean by this.
Even though I’m guessing the sentiment I was trying to convey has been felt by most people reading my essays and Instagram posts, it still feels like an explanation is overdue.
It was on one of my morning walks, where I remind myself to fully engage in life as well as try to inspire and encourage others to do the same, that I asked myself:
But wait, what would you say if someone asked you what it means to fully engage in life?
So here it is: the answer.
To face life, not retreat from it. To face the facts of your life: the problems, obstacles, difficulties, and misfortunes. To take them head-on as challenges. To endure and bear what is necessary, overcome what is possible, and come out on the other side a stronger, wiser, better, more complete human being.
To strive to get the most out of yourself and the life you’ve been given. To actualize your potential and try to go beyond it. Not only for yourself but for those around you as well.
In this striving forward and upward, to not forget to inhabit the present moment. To learn to see the magic in mundane, ordinary life. To maintain, or regain, the childlike curiosity and wonder for the world around you.
To know that there is always enough in you to keep going. And even when you feel like there isn’t anything left in you, to still keep going for the sake of those that will be saved by seeing you not give up. To continue carrying the torch of the unbreakable human spirit.
For your life to be a testimony that, after all and despite all, it’s good to be alive.
That is what fully engaging in life means for me. This is what I wish for you.

Another great piece mate. I've written for years, but so you know, seeing your Instagram and hearing about your Substack inspired me to re-commit to a consistent writing practice and to publish here. You've supplied many thoughts to mull over in the pursuit of engaging life more fully. Thank you.
